Abstract
Nano
Cu2O/Ca(OH)2 composites are successfully synthesized by a facile, one pot and interface reduction method. The
synthesis of these nano composites is accomplished through the reaction of CuCl2 with Ca(OH)2 on its interfac e forming
Cu(OH)2/Ca( 2 composite precursor, followed by a reduction of Cu(OH) 2 to Cu2O with glucose as the reducing agent.
The as synthesized samples have been characterized by X ray diffraction. The results show that the as synthesized
samples are cubi c nanocrystalline Cu2O/Ca(OH)2 composites with Cu2O average crystallite size distribution within a
narrow range, indicating that the Ca(OH)2 as a carrier has a controlling effect on the Cu2O average crystallite size. In
addition, the average crystallite si ze of Cu2O in Cu2O/Ca(OH) 2 composites was controlled by reaction temperature or the
starting concentration of CuCl2. But, reaction time has less impact on crystallinity and size of Cu2O in Cu2O/Ca(OH)2
composites..
