Abstract
In this paper we are investigating the use of a Ni36Ti29Zr35 amorphous material as a bipolar plate for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). The amorphous material presents high corrosion resistance, mechanical strength and low interfacial contact resistance. The corrosion property of the present alloy has been investigated under conditions that simulate the fuel cell environment; hydrogen gas and air were bubbled into a 1 N H2SO4 solution at 70 °C. The studied amorphous alloy displayed a supercooled liquid region (~41K). The contact resistances measured on this amorphous alloy were found to be comparable with that of the uncoated 316L stainless steel and graphite..
