Abstract

Films of Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) of different molecular weights were deposited on microscopic glass substrate using spin coating technique at 1500 rps for 30 s. Refractive index of thin films has been determined using ultravioletvisible- near infrared spectrometer in the spectral range 400-900 nm. Refractive index has been studied as a for PMMA at different temperatures (318 K, 328 K, 338 K, 348 K, 358 K) for different annealing times (1h, 2h, 3h,…., 10h). It has been observed that refractive index decreases with the increase in molecular weight of PMMA. It has also been observed that with increase in annealing temperature for different PMMA refractive index increases. Such films may be considered as prospective materials for fabrication of planar optical wavegu.
