Abstract
Intense green and red emissions are observed in Er3+ singly-doped and Er3+/Yb3+-codoped NaYF4 phosphors under 808nm
excitation. Co-doped Yb3+ ions reduce Er3+ up-conversion emission at low Er3+ doping concentration, while they enhance
the up-conversion emission at relatively high Er3+ concentration. A competitive energy transfer mechanism between Yb3+ →
Er3+ and Er3+ → Yb3+ is proposed to explain the Yb3+ dependent Er3+ up-conversion behavior..
