Abstract
The aim of this study was the evaluation of the excimer laser ablation effect on poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) film
surfaces by means of atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier Transform Infrared - Attenuated Total Reflectance (FTIRATR)
and contact angle measurements. Nitrogenous groups were introduced onto PET films through triethylenetetraamine
(TETA) by chemical treatments. Laser ablation on both untreated and treated biaxially stretched samples provided the
formation of superposed “nap” and “wall-type” structures. The size, distances between these types of surface arrangements
and the root-mean-square roughness (RMS) of the ablated surfaces were found to depend on the initial chemical conditions
of PET films.
