Abstract
A three
port p olarization independent beam splitter is described by the grating with a connecting layer between the grating
region and the substrate. Such a novel diffractive three port beam splitter is optimi zed to achieve high diffraction efficiency
with good uniformity. With the optimized grating para meters, efficiencies of 32.03%/ 32.06% and 32.14% 32.14%/32.15% can be
separated into the 1st and the 0th orders for TE and TM polarizations, respectively. Besides, th e usual duty cycle of 0.5 and
the aspect ratio of the grating depth to the ridge width of 1.83 facilitate the fabrication compared with reported gratings..
