Abstract

A new design method is proposed to optimize a heater shape in Digital Optical Switch (DOS) in order to improve the crosstalk performance. The heater has been optimized so that the thermal field distribution induce a constant effective refractive index difference (ΔNeff ) along the propagation direction. Compare to the linear heater, the result shows that the DOS using parabolic heater could improve the crosstalk performance. At temperature change of 30 °C, the crosstalk achieved by linear heater is only -10.3 dB, while the crosstalk achieved by the parabolic heater is -22.5 dB..
