Abstract
In this paper, the ternary complexes of Eu (III) with 1,3 diphenylpropane 1,3 dione DBM
1 --(4 bromophenyl) 3 phenylpropane 1,3 dione (Br DBM) and imidazo[5,6-f] phenanthroline (IP) have been synth esizedesized. The new complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy and thermal stability analysis. Their compositions were Eu(Br-DBM)3IP and Eu(DBM)3IP. F luorescence spectra demo n-
strate d that the complexes c ould emit narrow emission bands that arise from the 5D0–7FJ (J=1-4) transition of the Eu3+ ion, and the fluorescence intensity of Eu(Br-DBM)3IP wa s obviously higher. In addition, the lumines-cence decay curves of the complexes fit a single-exponential decay law. The values of quantum efficiencies of the emitting 5D0 level for the complexes Eu(Br-DBM)3IP and Eu(DBM)3IP were 28% and 24%, respectively..
