Abstract
In a number of previously published papers we presented experimental results on the monochromatization of noble gas
emission spectra on the addition of hydrogen (or other electronegative gases) to noble gas discharges. More recently, the
selective emission of two monochromatic spectral lines emitted in neon-argon mixture a.c. plasmas was reported. In this
later case, the addition of hydrogen to the noble gas mixture resulted in the emission of two intense and monochrome lines,
the 585.3 nm and the 750.4 nm line. The present paper presents new considerations for the explanation of these results. A
three body collision was found to be the elementary process that generates the monochrome radiation. Radiation capture
effects or the presence of metastable states are also discussed.
